Ramya, 6 yrs old, the youngest child, is enrolled in the 1st grade in Hope Foundation School. She has one older brother in Grade 4, also in HOPE school. Their father , Selvam, is a fisherman and their mother, Rani, sells fish in the market to support the family. The family lives in Tsunami Rehabilitation Home in Pudupattinam Fishermen Colony.
At the time of admission, the school ensured that Ramya was taken to the government run primary health clinic where all the necessary vaccinations were given to her, and her immunization chart brought up to date. She will continue receiving OPV whenever there is a pulse polio drive. A primary health worker will also be visiting the school periodically, to ensure that Ramya gets all her other vaccinations on time.

The grandmother also stays with the family. Parasuraman sells fish in the market to support the family of five, and Primala is a housewife. The family lives in Tsunami Rehabilitation Home in Uyyalikuppam.

Their father, an alocohol addict, abandoned the family when Nedumaran was three years old and his younger sister was an eight month old infant. Ever since, the family has stayed with the grandfather, who works as a watchman to make ends meet. The family lives in Pudupattinam Fishermen Colony.
At the time of admission, the school ensured that Bala was taken to the government run primary health clinic where all the necessary vaccinations were given to him, and his immunization chart brought up to date. He has one older brother who is also studying in HOPE school. Tragically, their father was murdered in a fight. The family lives in Tsunami Rehabilitation Home in Raja Nagar Colony.
