Karthika looks to a future free of preventable illnesses

K.Karthika, 3years, eldest daughter of Kallan and Vanathi, Kallan work as fisherman.  Her has youger sisiter  and grand mother. They live in pudupattinam fishermen colony. She is LKG student of HOPE School.

Three year old Karthika is a kindergarten student in the Primary School run by HOPE Foundation in Pudupattinam, near Chennai, India. She is the eldest daughter of Kallan, a fisherman, and Vanathi, a housewife. Her younger sister and grandmother make up the other members of her family.

At the time of admission, the school ensured that Karthika was taken to the government run primary health clinic where she was given the DPT (Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus) shot, and OPV (Oral Polio Vaccine). Karthika will continue receiving OPV whenever there is a pulse polio drive. A primary health worker will also be visiting the school periodically, to ensure that Karthika gets all her other vaccinations on time.
