Five year old Harish is a kindergarten student in the Primary School run by HOPE Foundation in Pudupattinam, near Chennai, India. His family was one of the many that were affected by the tsunami that hit the coast of South India in 2004. Harish’s father, Venkatesan, is a daily wage laborer, and his mother, Rajeshwari, is a housewife. Neither of his parents are well educated, but they realize the importance of an education, and are determined to give Harish, the schooling they never had.
In March, before admission into kindergarten, the school ensured that Harish was taken to the government run primary health clinic where he was given the DPT (Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus) booster shot. He has subsequently been receiving the OPV whenever there has been a pulse polio drive and tetanus and will continue doing so. In addition, a primary health worker will also be visiting the school periodically, to ensure that Harish gets all his vaccinations on time.
Your donation, Lynda, will ensure that Harish remains protected against seven deadly illnesses all his life.
