Five year old Nivetha is a kindergarten student in the Primary School run by HOPE Foundation in Pudupattinam, near Chennai, India. Her family was one of the many that were affected by the tsunami that hit the coast of South India in 2004. Her father, Sudhakar, is a fisherman, and her mother, Mahesgwari, is a housewife. Since they are both illiterate, they do not realize the importance of vaccinating their children against commonly childhood illnesses.
At the time of admission, the school ensured that Nivetha was taken to the government run primary health clinic where she was given all the shots required as per the government prescribed vaccination schedule. After enrollment, HOPE has been ensuring that Nivetha is given the Oral Polio Vaccine (OPV) everytime there is a pulse polio drive. Nivetha will soon come due for the DPT (Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus) booster dose, which HOPE will ensure she gets.
Your donation, Lynda, will ensure that Nivetha remains protected against seven deadly illnesses all her life. Thank you!
