Jayashri starts school knowing she is safe from deadly childhood illnesses

Jayashri
Dear Julie,

Three year old Jayashri is a pre-kindergarten student in the Primary School run by HOPE Foundation in Pudupattinam, near Chennai, India. She is a resident of the coastal village of Uyyalikuppam, and her family was one of the many that were affected by the tsunami that hit the coast of South India in 2004. Her father, Venkateshan, is a fisherman, and her mother, Ajantha, is a housewife. Neither of her parents has been to school.
In March, the school ensured that Jayashri was taken to the government run primary health clinic where she was given the DPT (Diptheria, Pertussis, Tetanus) shot, and OPV (Oral Polio Vaccine). Jayashri will continue receiving OPV whenever there is a pulse polio drive. A primary health worker will also be visiting the school periodically, to ensure that Jayashri gets all her vaccinations on time.
Your donation, Julie, will ensure that Jayashri remains protected against seven deadly illnesses all her life.
